The weather has been beautiful in downtown Playa Del Carmen. We have some great pictures to share. Walking in the evenings is a real pleasure, and after the sun sets, (but just before it gets too dark), the downtown area fills with people, children, and families all looking to enjoy a leisurely stroll down 5th avenue. Everyone walks slowly in order to window-shop. There is just so much to see. The food is great down here, although more expensive downtown than away from the crowds. There are lots of shops selling colorful Mexican goods, and although many of them sell kitschy junk that is designed for tourists, there's also some really beautiful pieces by local artists. I was dying to purchase a painted leather bag here, but I stopped myself. We found a great Cafe downtown that serves wonderful pastries and rolls (Cafe Antoinette) They have a simple web page that lists their hours and location. The bread is great and they are open late in the evening so you can get a night-time snack after the sun goes down.
