Internet, Satellite Service,  and Cable in Tulum

1/6/2016

Reader Question: After many years of traveling the world as a modern day nomad, I've just purchased a home in los arboles, tulum. I am desperately trying to access info/contacts for any individuals or vendors that can provide US-based TV services and dishes. Any knowledge on this? Thanks so much!

Answer: Congratulations on the purchase of your new home! I know that you will love Tulum, in all its beauty and gorgeous coastal landscapes. That aside, we completely understand your concern about internet services.  The infrastructure in Tulum is improving, but when we were there last year the internet is still pretty spotty in some places. The closer you get to Cancun, the better it is.

I suggest checking out Mindy's blog at Tulum Living (http://tulumliving.com). We did an interview with her all about Tulum, (the entire book is available on Kindle for only 99 cents) and her blog has a lot of great information about day-to-day living and what you can expect as an expat.

There are plenty of internet cafes in Tulum, so the service is available. If you don't want to pay for internet service at your home, you can use a cafe in downtown Tulum. There are several. They are all located on both sides of Avenue Tulum in the main tourist area of town.

Everything is SLOWER in Tulum, including the pace of life (that's why people want to live there!) but that also means that some infrastructure isn't completely up to par yet. Services are still available if you are willing to pay a premium. Good luck!
